This blog is about "responsible speech." We hear a lot in the news today about responsible (and irresponsible) speech) in political discussions. And that is one of the things this blog will discuss.
However, our focus will be wider. Responsible Speech is relevant to discussions in the workplace--responsible joking, not crossing the line into sexual harassment, asserting professional views without making nasty or underhanded accusations of motive. It also refers to how we talk to our loved ones, and what we do after we have spoken irresponsibly, say, said something that we know is wrong or hurt or is inaccurate.
So, this will be the beginning of the discussion. I welcome any posts on this subject, and look forward to some lively discussion in the process.
And, finally, I look forward to honing my own sense of "responsible speech" through this as well. To be able to talk about things that matter and allow ourselves to be moved, challenged, changed for the better.
